Singularities in three-legged platform-type parallel mechanisms

چکیده
Parallel mechanisms frequently contain an unstable type of singularity that has no counterpart in serial mechanisms. When the mechanism is at or near this type of singularity, it loses the ability to counteract external forces in certain directions. The determination of unstable singular con gurations in parallel robots is challenging in general, and is usually tackled via exhaustive search of the workspace using an accurate analytical model of the mechanism kinematics. This paper considers the singularity determination problem from a geometric perspective for planar and spatial three-legged parallel mechanisms. By using the constraints on the passive joint velocities, we derive a necessary condition for the unstable singularities. Using this condition, certain singularities can be found for certain type of platforms. As an example, new singular poses are discovered using this approach for a 6-DOF machining center. Changing Assembly Modes without Passing Parallel Singularities in Non-Cuspidal 3-RPR Planar Parallel Robots
This paper demonstrates that any general 3-DOF three-legged planar parallel robot with extensible legs can change assembly modes without passing through parallel singularities (configurations where the mobile platform loses its stiffness). While the results are purely theoretical, this paper questions the very definition of parallel singularities.
متن کاملSingularity Analysis of Three-legged Parallel Robots Based on Passive-joint Velocities
The closed-loop structure of a parallel robot results in complex kinematic singularities in the workspace of the mobile platform. Singularity analysis become important in design, motion planning, and control of parallel robots. Focusing on the instantaneous velocities of passive joints, a new formulation approach is proposed for the instantaneous kinematics and singularity analysis of a class o...

متن کاملKinematic Mapping and Forward Kinematic Problem of a 5-DOF (3T2R) Parallel Mechanism with Identical Limb Structures
The main objective of this paper is to study the Euclidean displacement of a 5-DOF parallel mechanism performing three translation and two independent rotations with identical limb structures-recently revealed by performing the type synthesis-in a higher dimensional projective space, rather than relying on classical recipes, such as Cartesian coordinates and Euler angles. In this paper, Study's...
متن کاملDesign of a Four Legged Parallel Walking Robot to Go through a Narrow Hole
This paper designs a four legged parallel walking robot to go through a narrow hole. Topology design is conducted for a leg mechanism composed of four legs, base and ground, which constitute a redundant parallel mechanism. This mechanism is subdivided into four sub-mechanism composed of three legs. A motor vector is adopted to determine the 6x8 Jacobian of the redundant parallel mechanism and t...
